2010 Presentation Night
will be held at the Lakers Tavern, Forrest Lakes (same as last year), on Sunday 30th January.
All 2010 competitors and volunteers are invited to join us for light nibbles and some drinks from 4pm with Presetations around 5.30pm. Anyone wishing to have dinner at the Tavern afterwards is urged to make a booking beforehand.

Australian Sprint Championship
Congratulations go to Gary Thorn who has just competed at the Australian Sprint Championships at Morgan Park, Queensland. Gary, in his Birkin, took out 1st in Class (under 2L Sportscars) and 6th Outright, which was an outstanding performance, well done Gary.

The VSCC have withdrawn from the CAMS WA Speed Event Series from January 1st 2011. Statement from VSCC (38kb pdf). The LF Performance Speed Event Series will be negotiating replacement events, with the cooperation of new host club/s, stay tuned.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO COMPETITORS FROM CAMS

At the recent V8 Supercar event at Abu Dhabi it came to the attention of CAMS that a number of race suits were presented which were embroidered with an FIA Homologation number that does not align with the actual manufacturer of the suit. This is counter to the FIA’s regulations and therefore the suits are invalid for use in competition.
CAMS has raised this matter with the FIA and further investigations will be undertaken to determine the circumstances of the situation and subsequent actions to be taken.
Competitors should be aware that for a suit to be in compliance with the FIA 8856-2000 standard, the suit homologation number and manufacturer must be as listed in FIA Technical List number 27. This information is embroidered on the back of the neck of each suit.
While only a small number of suits are believed to be affected, if you have any doubts as to the validity of your suit, CAMS suggests that you contact your supplier and/or the manufacturer for further advice.
Please note that any suit with incorrect homologation information will not be accepted for use in competition.

2009 LF Performance Speed Event Series Presentations
held last night at the Lakers Tavern, Forrest Lakes, was a great night, thanks to Lyn and Peter Morley for organising the great venue. We had a great turn out, and hope to post some photos of the presentation winners as they become available – send them in if you took any pics last night!

The 2009 L F Performance Speed Event Series in review.

2009 has been a very successful year for the L F Performance Speed Event Series. We have welcomed aboard new sponsors, new entrants and we have seen a year of spirited competition. The standard of cars has been ever improving, the margins ever closer and the winning times ever quicker. We have seen the debut of a new venue in the Collie hillclimb and there have been changes in the organisational side with CAMS setting up a special advisory committee made up largely of SES folk.

Thanks must to go out to our generous sponsors, the organising committee, scrutineers, clerks of course, race secretaries, marshals, timekeepers, point scorers, website designers, trophy makers, photographers, lunch ladies & everyone else has who contributed to such a great year.

Since its beginnings in the late nineties the series has grown enormously. This is demonstrated by the number of competitors, the quality of the cars & of the competition. Some random statistics may illustrate the health of the LF Performance Speed Event Series in 2009.
The series boasted 103 registered entrants.
329 individuals competed in the SES.
Collectively 951 entries were received over the thirteen rounds.
There were six winners for the thirteen events.
17 entrants claimed outright trophies.
65 winners claimed class trophies.
The biggest field was at Mt Clarence with 103 runners.
The closest outright finish for the year at Jack’s Hill where Graham Renn bested Phillip Morley by 0.3535 seconds.
The closest class finish for the year was at Collie in May where Bill Stagoll beat out Marcus Hodge by 0.0065 seconds, with the winning time being 53.6816 seconds.

Outright championship
The run away winner for 2009 was Peter Morley in his OMS RA open wheeler. Peter dominated the results with wins at all but two of the events he attended, scoring 82 points in the process. It represents Peter’s third championship in three years. Well done.

Second in the standings with 54 points was Tony Flood. Despite the WRX falling away a little in outright competitiveness a series of excellent results at the hillclimbs allowed Tony to match his placing of 2008.

Third outright was Mike Joss in his Nissan Silvia. Mike has put a great deal of work into the Nissan in recent years and a string of solid results is the reward for his efforts.

Other notable point scoring outright runners included Dick Ward with a win in the steaming heat at the Christmas sprint round, Phil Morley who, in his fathers OMP, picked up a pair of ten point results and Cos Sorgiovanni in a newly imported Pilbeam winning on debut at the Barbagallo long circuit.

Class reports
Outright Under 2000cc Open Cars (1A)
The 1A class is very much a family affair. The Morley family being represented by Peter & Phil & the Sorgiovanni’s by Cos & Chris. Honours rested with Peter who won the class with 86 points.

Outright Under 2000cc Closed Cars (1B)
The outright under 2 litre class was taken out by Peter Byrne who went one place up on his efforts in 2007 & 2008. As is his custom Peter entered all the events and only a rear axle failure at Collie in May preventing him from scoring points at all thirteen rounds.
Others to win the ten points were Gary Mewett in his Monte Carlo, Tsung Lee (Honda Civic), Angela Hooper (Honda Integra) and Tom Vann Kan (Toyota Sprinter). Gavin Reynolds (Honda Civic) although not registered had a good year with class wins at all three Wanneroo events and a class lap record on the long circuit.

Outright over 2001cc Open and Closed (1C)
Ray Ferrari used both his West 89 & R33 Skyline GT-R to good effect to win the 1C category. The wonderful sound of the GT-R launching on the limiter at hillclimbs being matched by the raucous idle of the West’s rotary at other events.
In second place was Dick Ward in the RX-7/Fiat Arbath and the Hornsey family (Adrian & Keith) in third & forth respectively. A good result given the huge number of miles the two travelled to reach many events.

Group N & Group S Cars under 1500cc (3A)
John Poyner dominated the under 1500cc historic class in his neat 1972 Lancer GSR from Terry O’Keefe in his Mini Cooper with a round win at Collie being the highlight of his year.

Group N & Group S Cars over 1501cc (3B)
As is to be expected this class is one of the most diverse with entries for a Valiant Charger, Ford Cortina & GT Falcon, Holden Torana’s and a TVR 3000M.

Eddie Melle (Mk 7 Bolwell) emerged victorious from John Hurney (TVR 3000M) in a hard fought championship. Ken Eade (Chrysler Valiant S) was in third despite missing the last half of the season with the ever genial John Urquhart (Chrysler Valiant Charger) showing there is not much wrong with the brand.

Class winner during the year also included David Bartlett (Ford Cortina) Graeme Riley (Holden Torana), Paul Van Den Rydt (Ford Escort), Russell Cooley (Ford Falcon) and Garry Edwards (BMW 2002).

Production Sports Cars under 2000cc (4A)
The 4A class was very much a benefit for the Lotus brand. A late surge by Barry Nash (Elise) settled the class championship in his favour. Second was Bob Chaplin (Elise) who had a perfect start to the year with five wins in five outings but faded later on. A sole win went to Victor Popescu (Elise S2) and a pair to Bill Stagoll (Exige) when he took time off from his Porsche. Marcus Hodge claiming third place with two wins over the Albany long weekend.

Production Sports Cars 2001 – 3200cc (4B)
Bill Stagoll in his Silver 911 dominated the point score & class results for the year. Sole wins went to Rich Davies (Datsun 240Z), Peter Harrold (260Z) at Collie and Graeme Paynter (Porsche 911) at Wanneroo.

Production Sports Cars over 3201cc (4C)
The over 3.2 litre class is one of the series most popular and diverse. No fewer than 18 cars were entered for Wanneroo in February. A consistent campaign from Karl Watson in his black Toyota Supra saw him take out the class from Colin Wishart in his Clevelend engined Cobra. Demonstrating the diversity of the class wins went to Adam Plummer (Porsche 911), Iain Reid (Cobra), Robert Cameron (Triumph TR7), Paul Summers (Porsche 911) and Frank Alvaro (Toyota Supra).

Four Wheel Drive
The four wheel drive class has been one of the most popular and closely fought over the season. The class high water marks included seventeen entries for Collie in February and the first four outright places at Busselton. There have been eight different class winners over the thirteen events with the tightest winning margin of 0.03 seconds at the second of the Collie supersprints.

From all that the familiar TFM Subaru WRX of Tony Flood has once again emerged as class champion – his two round victories helping extend his winning run to four years on the trot. But this year he has been pushed like never before by a number of new inclusions and some improvements amongst familiar faces.

Peter Flood contributed to the WRX score with a win at the October Jack’s Hill round helping him to third place in the points. Former class champion Jamie Lister made a brief return to head the 4WD’s at Jacks Hill. Despite only running four events Michael Lloyd won outright at Busselton and Meelup.

Class wins have gone to the Mitsubishi Evo’s of series Sponsor Kim Ledger (Barbagallo short course), Franz Estebauer (Collie circuit) & Ben Maziarz. Ben’s second place in the points tally is a reflection of his solid year with a class win & third outright at Mt Clarence being the years highlight.

Highlight of the year for the Nissan 4WD’s was the Eames’ families effort at the second of the Collie hillclimbs. James won the event outright with George in third place.

Road Registered under 2000cc (5A)
In a repeat of the 2008 result, the under two litre road registered category went to the well proven Escort of Bevan Cook It was very much a case of the new versus the old in the under 2000cc class – Escorts of varying vintages vying for honours with much newer Honda Civics. For the Escorts round wins went to Bevan Cook, Ed Griffiths & Mark Hallam. For the Honda’s honours were claimed by Sena Pratama & Daniel Yovanovich. Duane Joubert in his Toyota Sprinter bucked the trend with a win at Busselton.

Road Registered 2001 – 4000cc (5B)
Mike Joss (Nissan Silvia) dominated the class with eleven wins, three outright podium placings and a new lap record for the Collie circuit recorded the day after an off at the hillclimb. Ian Chambers had a solid year with the highlight being a brace of wins at Albany.

Road Registered over 4001cc (5C)
Proving that a consistent run in the points score is the way to do it – Andrew Vaisey (Skyline GTS-T) claimed the over four litre championship.

In second was Mike Wallis in his RB25DET engined 260Z. Mike managed to pack a lot into this season. Highlights (?) included a run in with the constabulary over the Albany long weekend, what can only be described as an attention getting expedition through the paddock at the end of the start/finish straight at Collie, a substantial off at Jacks Hill and a somewhat second hand motor on the return from the Collie hillclimb.

Former series regular Julian O’Hara debuted his red DRB GT40 replica at the Jack’s hillclimb – despite a persistent misfire & poor handling Julian claimed a pair of class wins. Peter Pisconerii (Ford Falcon) rounded out the year with a win at the Wanneroo combined circuit sprint.

Special mention must go to Russell Cooley (XY Falcon) & Shayne Farley (VH Commodore) for their prompt return to the series after a pair of incidents.

Production Clubman (PC)
Brent Matthews (Westfield SE) and Gary Thorn (Birkin S3) battled it out for honours in the production clubman class. Between them they won all of the class trophies on offer and Brent really only cemented the championship win at the Meelup event. Frank Ferrari & Colin Youd both had consistent campaigns to claim third & fourth in class.
